PetSafe Healthy Pet Simply Feed Review

Pet Urinary Tract and Bladder Health

I’m pleased to let you know there are things you can do to help your pet maintain optimal urinary tract and bladder health. None of the steps I’m about to share with you replace professional care if your pet is currently experiencing a urinary tract or bladder problem. These are all signs that may indicate a potentially serious issue with your pet’s urinary tract or bladder. Assuming none of the above signals apply to your cat or dog, your pet can benefit from extra urinary tract health support. That’s not all There are two other factors I believe may indicate your pet needs extra support for her less-than-optimal urinary tract or bladder health.

Many pet owners don’t realize the connection between urine pH and bladder health. So let’s talk briefly about how you can help maintain optimal urinary and bladder health in your pet, simply by paying attention to diet. There’s one more issue with commercial dog and cat foods that’s linked to your pet’s urinary tract and bladder health – the moisture content of the food. A study published in 1999 by a pet food company discovered the urinary tract health of cats fed canned food was considerably better than that of cats fed a dry food diet. All are eager to help their pets maintain optimal urinary tract and bladder health.

To assist pet owners everywhere, I’ve formulated what I consider a superior blend for bladder and urinary tract support for both cats and dogs. Now it’s easier than ever to help your pet experience optimal bladder health.

Pet Urinary Health

Lower urinary tract disease refers to a group of disorders that commonly leads to irritation of the urinary tract and corresponding undesirable clinical signs. In dogs, bacterial infections of the urinary tract and the presence of stones in the urinary tract are the most common causes of LUTD. In cats, the most common cause of LUTD is idiopathic cystitis. Urinary diseases commonly require medical treatments such as antibiotics or surgeries. A therapeutic diet can be an important aid in managing these diseases and their recurrence.

If your pet’s medication comes with a broken seal or a leaking bottle, you should report these and similar issues to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration at once, the agency asks. Call the drug company directly if you are reporting a bad reaction or product defect. Reports should be thorough, including a good medical history, a veterinarian’s report, foods and treats given to your pet, and the names and amounts of all drugs, supplements or vitamins that the animal was given.

Health Risks of Having a Pet

Dogs and cats that spend time in wooded areas may pick up tiny ticks. Some ticks carry Lyme disease, which can be hard to detect and diagnose, causing long-term problems, such as irregular heartbeat, arthritis, and impaired brain function. Do a full-body inspection on your kids and yourself, too. Remove ticks from animals and humans in the same way: Disinfect the bite area with rubbing alcohol and pull the tick straight up and off with tweezers. That way, if your child or pet becomes ill over the next few weeks, you’ll have the tick for testing.

When removing ticks from pets, it’s helpful to have a second person to help prevent the animal from twisting or jerking.

Happy N’ Healthy Pet Products

He gave his dog, Belle, one of our Happy N’ Healthy Meaty Y Knuckle bones. Which are pretty humongous bones meant for large dogs. Following the directions on the label, he put the bone outside on the deck for Belle to enjoy. Then he stood back and let her have at it since she was pretty intensely focused on that dog bone! So she ran off the deck with the partially chewed dog bone in her mouth.

He saw her furiously digging in the dirt beside a large tree so she could bury her bone. I always thought that was pretty much a cartoon thing – that dogs took their treasures – bones and treats and such – and buried them in the yard for safekeeping. There was Belle, dirt flying out in an arc behind her, digging a hole for her bone! She clearly recognized the value of a good dog bone! Belle was so good at burying that bone, her owner couldn’t easily extract it from the ground.

Anyway, he dug up the bone and brought it inside and washed off all the dirt. We love to hear good dog stories – especially ones with happy endings! So, if you have any dog stories you’d like to share, please do.

My 5yr old male boxer, Brutus, was diagnosed with Lymphoma at the end of this July. We are doing chemotherapy – adriamycin every three weeks, with our vet. I am struggling with all of the information out there about what is really best to feed a dog with lymphoma to give the best possible chance. My vet said he needed to be on high fat high protein low carb diet, and it was up to me if I wanted to feed him homemade or dog food. He did seem like he would like him to get back to normal pet food and recommended I go to a pet store and have them advise the best options for this diet, one of the brands that I could afford and looked promising was the Taste of the Wild.

Now I am concerned on giving him this food at all from things I am finding from my research or by what people are informing me. I had a conversation with Lew Olson in regards to feeding my dog Taste of the Wild along with BARF diet, where she explains that I shouldn’t feed him any commercial dog food only fresh low carb food. I am afraid to feed him the wrong thing that could interfere with his treatment and longevity,If anyone can give me expert advice or thoughts on this issue, it would be greatly appreciated.

Healthy Pet Clinics Fall 2014

The second Healthy Pet Clinic of the fall season was held at the St. Lucy’s Church gynasium on Sunday, October 19th and served more than 160 animals on a chilly autumn day. Pet owners often line up hours in advance of the scheduled opening. The Healthy Pet Clinic concept was conceived during meetings of that group of animal helping agencies. The commitment of volunteer veterinarians, technicians and animal lovers and community volunteers from across the Syracuse and Central New York area has made the clinics possible.

The Healthy Pet Clinics are administered exclusively by volunteers. They are funded by the cash donations made by the pet owners who patiently wait as long as two hours for their turn to get affordable care for their pets. Pet owners should arrive early as doors often open before noon. Pet owners need to bring documentation of financial need. Proof of address is required to show the pet owner lives in Syracuse.

Pet owners should ONLY bring animals in need of vaccinations and other care. Please do not bring your pet only for toe nail clippings or flea/tick product. Watch slideshow of images from September 2013 Healthy Pet Clinic.

Pet ownership and human health: a brief review of evidence and issues

Accepted 4 November 2005.Research into the association between pet ownership and human health has produced intriguing, although frequently contradictory, results often raising uncertainty as to whether pet ownership is advisable on health grounds. Death of a pet can cause grief similar to that in human bereavement, whereas threat of loss of a pet may be met with blunt refusal and non-compliance with advice on health. We examine the current evidence for a link between pet ownership and human health and discuss the importance of understanding the role of pets in people’s lives. Three potential mechanisms have been proposed to explain the association between pet ownership and benefits to human health. 13 The first is that there is no real association between the two, rather that cofactors such as personality traits, age, and economic or health status impact on the decision to own a pet and thus produce an apparent link between pets and health. So far evidence is lacking that any of these cofactors account for both health promoting attributes and propensity to own pets, suggesting that health benefits, when reported, may be attributable to some aspect of pet ownership.

The third proposal focuses on ways in which pet ownership may exert a direct effect on human health and wellbeing through the nature of the relationship. Figure 2 illustrates the inter-relationship between functions served by pet ownership and human health outcomes. Why pet ownership should be taken seriously The question of whether a person should acquire a pet or continue to own a pet requires careful consideration of the balance between benefits and potential problems. Conflict between health interests and pet ownership can cause non-compliance with advice on health. Some sources estimate that up to 70% of pet owners would disregard advice to get rid of a pet owing to allergies,w5 whereas reports abound of older people avoiding medical care through fear of being admitted to hospital or residential care as this often means giving up a pet.

People do not own pets specifically to enhance their health, rather they value the relationship and the contribution their pet makes to their quality of life.20 Greater understanding among health professionals is needed to assure people that they do not need to choose between pet ownership and compliance with health advice.

The Impact of Pets on Human Health and Psychological Well-Being: Fact, Fiction, or Hypothesis?

Because of extensive media coverage, it is now widely believed that pets enhance their owners’ health, sense of psychological well-being, and longevity. While some researchers have reported that positive effects accrue from interacting with animals, others have found that the health and happiness of pet owners is no better, and in some cases worse, than that of non-pet owners. Google Scholar, SAGE Journals, ISI Allen, K., Shykoff, B.E., Izzo, J.L. Pet ownership, but not ACE inhibitor therapy, blunts home blood pressure responses to mental stress. Google Scholar, Medline, ISI Becker, M.

Special Care Instructions from Partners for Healthy Pets

Healthy pets sometimes euthanized for owners’ convenience: veterinary groups

Animal advocates are calling for an end to the euthanization of healthy pets purely for their owners’ convenience, a practice Canadian veterinarians acknowledge is an unfortunate fact of their profession. Veterinarians’ associations say fewer vets are willing to perform convenience euthanasia, but the profession does not prohibit it. Dr. Troy Bourque, president of the CVMA, said he is certain some vets still perform convenience euthanasia. Camille Labchuk, an animal rights lawyer and executive director of Animal Justice, a Toronto-based advocacy organization, says it should be.

Dr. Frank Richardson, president of the Nova Scotia Veterinary Medicine Association, said it is up to vets how to handle conversations about euthanasia. Mary-Clare McLaren, a manager at Carnegy Animal Hospital, said reasons can vary for putting pets down. The Carnegy clinic asks no questions of people who bring their pets in to be put down, she said. Dr.

Paul Kendall, director of the Halifax Veterinary Hospital Group, comprised of three hospitals and about 40 medical staff, said they will not put an animal down for the owner’s convenience. Kendall said he understands why convenience euthanasia happens, and won’t criticize veterinarians who perform it. Angela Welburn, the operator of Integrity’s Haven Equine Rescue Centre in Chester Basin, N.S., said she started her animal rescue partly because she once met a woman at a Halifax vet clinic who wanted to put down an elderly dog so her kids could get a puppy. She also understands that animals with mental or behavioural issues need to be euthanized at times. Dr.

Bernard Rollin – a professor of philosophy, animal sciences and biomedical sciences at Colorado State University who has written extensively on animal rights and ethics – said there needs to be more emphasis on ethical training in veterinarian schools.

Was walking past Seaholm after a jog with my pups and happened to see they had a self serve dog wash… Decided to pop in on a whim and treat the boys to nice bath that wouldn’t end with me being soak…ed and covered in dog hair for once… Totally worth the 32 bucks. Staff was great, and even offered to help if I needed it. Everyone else was just as helpful and they even gave me a few treats to coax the dogs into the tub.

S are available for pre-bath brushing… The soap and conditione. R they provide left Phineas and Scout SUPER soft, and smelling great… They also provide ear cleaner, toothpaste. A lavender scented holistic flea and tick spray, as well as a wide array of scented spray on conditione.

Y, a few towels and a hilarious blow dryer The only issue I really had was that when I did use the blow dryer, it kicked up quite a bit of hair in the room and made me feel like I was in one of those game show cash grab booths, but instead of $100 bills, it was just dog hair :/That probably has more to do with me washing 2 dogs, and drying them both off at the very end instead of when they were still in the sink. Food and treats were also priced really well too, so we picked up a few things as a reward for all the good behavior.

Complete Natural Health For Your Pet

In many cases, the cause is a poorly functioning immune system and toxic buildup in the body’s organs, particularly in the liver. The diet of an animal in the wild would often include these antioxidants and herbs. While living safely indoors with us protects them, it also limits their capability to take care of their own health, as they would instinctively. The supplements are meant to make up for some of the short-comings in the diets of our animal friends. Other pet parents started giving C-Caps to their animals after hearing what none of us wants to hear.

If you read some of the heartwarming testimonials, you’ll see what natural remedies can do. Mistletoe – a highly nutritious plant that animals would naturally eat in the wild. Echinacea – a well-known plant that supports normal blood pressure and stimulates the immune system. Indian ginseng – a tonic herb that supports growth, strengthens the immune system and nourishes the blood. Milk Thistle – used as a liver tonic for thousands of years.

Cat’s Claw – another plant that supports and maintains the immune system. Whether your animals are well and healthy or suffering from chronic health problems, C-Caps are a good investment.

A Healthy Mouth for a Healthy Pet

Man best friend, our furry four legged pet, our dogs. Not only is halitosis disruptive to the relationship with your pet it can also be the first sign of trouble. If your pets health is important to you remember, they need a healthy mouth for a healthy pet. A daily brushing of your pet’s teeth is a very effective method for preventing tooth loss and periodontal disease. There are a few do’s and do not’s when it come to caring for your pets mouth.

These brushes are too hard for your pet’s mouth. Since our pets tend to swallow most of the foam it can cause vomiting. Do use pet chew toys which are designed to create gum stimulation. You can even check into prescription pet foods that have been developed to clean your pets teeth if the suffer from chronic dental disease. The bottom line is that if you have a dog or a cat for a pet, chances are very good that they may be a candidate for oral disease.

The good news is that with all of the products and techniques available today pet health and oral health is fairly simple. Start with a daily brushing of pet’s teeth and a yearly visit to the vet for an oral cleaning and exam, and your on the right path to good pet health.

Water and pets

Drinking bottled water, or filtered water from the refrigerator while your cat, dog or other pet’s water bowl is filled from that, ugh, tap. Still, many continue to feed fill pet bowls with tap water. Most animal experts will agree that pets should be given the same quality water as humans: bottled and/or filtered. As stated earlier, municipal and well water can contain many harmful things, even parasites. They don’t discriminate between pets and people!

Some folks feed their pet’s bottled water and can cause more problems than they think. Bottled water is extremely expensive and continues to add waste in our landfills. Despite the waste plastic bottles create, some bottled water is just bottled tap water. This means pets can still be harmed by the contaminants in the unfiltered water. Giving your pet filtered water will remove a potentially sickness-causing organism or metal from being ingested.

Cats and dogs, the two most common pets, need fresh water and plenty of it. Fish, who live in water, can be greatly affected by water with high levels of chlorine or ammonia; chemical used in some treatment plants. Poor quality water can be more prone to ‘bad’ algae.

Healthy Pet Keys for keeping your pet healthy

Dementia is often related to memory loss, but it is more than that. In simple words, Dementia is defined as the disability to perform two or more functions of the brain at the same time, without hampering any functioning including memory, language, judgment, reasoning and more. All these symptoms reflect the critical effects of the Dementia. Sometimes the patients suffering from Dementia don’t understand what they are doing. Though the reasons of Dementia are still not clear, any kind of injury to the brain cells is considered as the main reason of Dementia.

Basically, Dementia is classified into different categories on the basis of its intensity in the patients: -. As per the name, this kind of Dementia has an extreme effect on the cortex of the brain. The inner layers of the brain are not affected by this Cortical Dementia. To improve the symptoms of Dementia, various drugs like Reminyl, Exelon, Aricept, Cognex are used in many countries. NeuroGen Brain and Spine Institute is the first hospital in India to introduce Dementia stem cell treatment.

NIH News in Health

Interacting with animals has been shown to decrease levels of cortisol and lower blood pressure. The NIH/Mars Partnership is funding a range of studies focused on the relationships we have with animals. Researchers are looking into how animals might influence child development. They’re studying animal interactions with kids who have autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and other conditions. NIH is funding large-scale surveys to find out the range of pets people live with and how their relationships with their pets relate to health.

Animals can serve as a source of comfort and support. Researchers are studying the safety of bringing animals into hospital settings because animals may expose people to more germs. Kids who read to the real animals showed better social skills and more sharing, cooperation, and volunteering. The researchers suggest that the animals offered unconditional acceptance, making them a calm comfort to the children. While pets may bring a wide range of health benefits, an animal may not work for everyone.

For people who are allergic to certain animals, having pets in the home can do more harm than good. Knowing how to care for and feed an animal is part of owning a pet.

55 Dog Behavior Facts, from Pet Health 101

Dogs are social and are concerned with what we think, thus dog behaviors can be reinforced with praise. Canine packs don’t have a democracy; they have an alpha dog. When dogs are the same size, there is no obvious alpha dog. It is easier to teach a dog not to bite than it is to stop it from biting once it has developed the habit. Dominant dogs bite when threatened; shy dogs run if they can.

Once a dog has learned to bite, neutering the dog and removing male hormone testosterone does not make the dog less likely to bite. On the other hand, a neutered dog will be bitten less often by other dogs because it does not smell as threatening as a dog that has testosterone in its body. What is natural is for a dog that wants to show it is submissive to voluntarily roll over. It is easier to change aggressive behavior when it occurs in a horse than when it occurs in a dog or a cat. This is because a horse is a prey animal and does not have the same drive to be aggressive as a dog, which is a natural predator.

Dogs naturally fear a snarl and bared teeth, can be taught to fear humans, and cannot normally be taught to fear grass. Prairie dogs are prey animals who communicate with nouns verbs and adjectives.

For Pet's Sake News for 05-14-2018

A positron emission tomography scan is an imaging test that allows your doctor to check for diseases in your body. The scan uses a special dye that has radioactive tracers. When highlighted under a PET scanner, the tracers help your doctor to see how well your organs and tissues are working. The PET scan can measure blood flow, oxygen use, glucose metabolism, and much more. Your doctor may order a PET scan to inspect the blood flow, oxygen intake, and metabolism of your organs and tissues.

The PET scan involves radioactive tracers, but the exposure to harmful radiation is minimal. If you’re pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or you’re breast-feeding, you shouldn’t get a PET scan. There are times that, in order to get a more thorough image, a PET scan is combined with a CT scan. If additional radioactive tracer is needed for the CT scan, it can be harmful to people who have kidney disease or who have elevated creatinine level from other medications they are already taking. You should tell your doctor if you’ve experienced an allergic reaction during a PET scan before.

Your doctor will provide you with complete instructions for how to prepare for your PET scan. Your body needs time to absorb the tracers, so you’ll wait about an hour before the scan begins.

What to Feed Your Pet Rabbit

A nice mix of hay, vegetables, pellets, as well as fresh water will make your rabbit healthy and happy. Fresh hay should make up the bulk of your rabbit’s diet and needs to be readily available at all times. Adult rabbits can eat timothy, grass, and oat hays, while younger rabbits should be fed alfalfa. Hay is important for rabbits because it provides the essential fiber needed for good digestive health and it helps wear down a rabbit’s teeth for good dental health. Placing hay at one end of a litter box will also encourage the use of the litter box, as rabbits tend to eat hay and poop at the same time.

Always wash your vegetables thoroughly before feeding them to your rabbit. Feed new vegetables in small quantities until you can judge if your rabbit reacts well to them. Do not feed rabbits the leaves from houseplants as many are poisonous to rabbits. For a full list of poisonous plants, visit the Sacramento House Rabbit Society’s page on the subject. Fresh water must always be available to your rabbit.

If your rabbit does not seem to be drinking enough water you can leave the vegetables fairly wet when you present them. Do not feed your rabbit items high in carbohydrates like breads, crackers, pasta, pretzels, cookies, chips, or cereal.

How pets improve your health

Companion pets do more than make us smile; they’re actually good for our health. From reduced incidence of depression, lower blood pressure and overall stress reduction, a four-legged friend might be the best health plan money can’t buy. Numerous studies have demonstrated that the average companion animal can deliver extraordinary physical health results. In some cases, having a pet can improve your health more than medication alone – or at all. It’s no wonder then that more than half of households overall have a pet in the family.

Maybe that’s why dogs and cats are associated with improved mental health, too. They simply love us, as is, and ask for nothing more in return. Reduced stress and incidence of depression; elderly people are less depressed if they own a pet. Recent widows who own pets use less medication and have fewer symptoms of any type of illness than those that don’t own a pet. Dog owners report being as emotionally connected to their pet as to their closest family members.

Just a half hour in the company of a dog improves feelings of happiness and well-being. Perhaps it’s the military personnel and veterans who adopt through our program that sum it up best: pets give us a purpose in life, another reason to live.
