The Vizsla, Healthy Pet Best of Breeds

Healthy Pets Healthy Streets

The initiative offers free spay/neuter and wellness services to pet owners in neighborhoods with a large number of stray animals and dog bite complaints in the City. Although we focus our outreach efforts in these area, we offer the free service to anyone that lives within the City of Houston limits. WHY WE’RE DOING IT:As the fourth largest city in the United States and with a favorable year-round climate for stray and homeless animals, Houston has a large and ever-growing animal overpopulation problem. Although many individual organizations have worked to help reduce the problem across the community, it has become clear that a strong partnership of pet advocates in Houston needed to come together and take on the problem together. We have teamed up with several of Houston’s top pet advocacy organizations, Friends for Life as Houston’s leading No Kill shelter, SNAP,Emancipet, and Houston Humane Society to use a strategic, targeted approach to reduce pet overpopulation, promote pet wellness, and educate Houstonians on what responsible pet ownership looks like.

More healthy and sterilized pets also mean healthier and safer streets and sidewalks. This project is a comprehensive quality of life improvement for both the pets and the people living in the impacted areas. THE APPROACH:This is an approach to reduce the number of stray and homeless animals in Houston. Given the sheer size of Houston and the fact that hundreds of thousands of stray animals roam the streets each day, a strategic approach was critical in order to ensure a true reduction in pet overpopulation across the community over time. Pet advocacy groups in Austin, Texas successfully used this approach, and we hope to repeat that success in Houston.

You can also help by educating others about being responsible pet owners. As we continue launching additional efforts in neighborhoods across the community, your donation can help more and more pets get the services they need.

Vet searched and subpoenaed in massive dog fighting investigation

Another dog recovered in a massive dog fighting investigation came from a west side veterinarian, according to new court records obtained by ABC 6/FOX 28. While police and agents with the Capital Area Humane Society and ASPCA searched five home on the west and east sides of the city and seized 45 dogs in the process, agents with the USDA searched Healthy Pets of Westgate on West Broad Street Tuesday. The veterinarian at the clinic told agents Hill dropped off Escobar Monday and said the dog’s owner, who has not been charged, had to leave town. Healthy Pets of Westgate would like to make it clear that it is not targeted in the investigation and complied with the requests to keep the dog until agents could obtain a court order to seize it. In a prior story, ABC-6 indicated there was police tape on the animal hospital’s roof.

Healthy Pets of Westgate tells ABC 6/FOX 28 that the police tape on its roof was caution tape from a nearby parking lot where a light pole had fallen and the wind blew the tape onto its roof. Three of the four men charged have already posted their $40,000 bonds.

OurPets Comfort Feeder Healthy Pet Diner Raised Dog Bowls Elevated Feeder Double Stainless Steel Bowls with Stand

The bowls are imported from India, and have cellophane tape attached – presumably to prevent them from getting scratched during shipping – but the cheap tape leaves all of its adhesive on the bowl, and was a chore to remove, something one should not have to deal with. One of them had a nickel sized dent in the bottom corner – no worries though as the sheet metal is flimsy, allowing me to pop it 90% back into form with a broom handle. The base is solid & looks good for recycled plastic, and the flimsy bowls settle in perfectly.

PetSafe Healthy Pet Gravity Feeder & Waterer Set for Pets

PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Station, Large

After switching to this 2.5 gallon auto bowl I only have to refill it about once a day. Now that this baby is set up, I’m only refilling her water every day or two! What a victory! The stainless steel dish also makes it easy to clean out her globby slobber and the detritus that flops out of her floopy jowls. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars is because for some reason, both the cats and dogs, still prefer the good ol’e fashion big bowl of water.

The fact that you can carry it by the handle even with water in it is a huge plus to me and I don’t even mind refilling it often, which we have 4 pets that drink out of it. This waterer is perfect! We have three dogs ranging in size from a 110 lab to a corgi & the capacity of this waterer makes keeping them supplied with water so easy! Also, the stainless steel bowl is removable for easy cleaning and water container itself is made of very durable plastic! 100% satisfied. I have three dogs and kept filling up there bowls with water too often.

I opted to buy one of these pet water stations and it worked well with the medium size, but since two of my dogs are larger I ordered another medium water station and it’s perfect. It’s simple to change the water with minimal spillage if any at all. I bought this because my boy Felix was playing and knocked over his water bowl accidentally. Didn’t want him to not drink so I had to go back to his regular water bowl. Like these water stations so much, that I got a second one for the ‘dog room’.

I ordered the filters this time and they have worked flawlessly… so now I can fill them from the sink, instead of using filtered fridge water.

Healthy Pets Clinic

Our Healthy Pets Clinic offers the canine influenza vaccine. The initial dose is $25. The booster is an additional $25. If your pet is showing ANY respiratory signs, such as coughing or sneezing, please do not bring your pet to the clinic. The Kentucky Humane Society wants to ensure that every pet owner in our community has access to basic veterinary care for dogs and cats they can afford.

This is important not only to help keep owned pets healthy, but to ensure there are fewer sick animals in our community and in local shelters. KHS discovered the need for wellness examinations through our free Pet Help Line, 502-509-4PET. One of the most common reasons people call the Pet Help Line is because they are looking for affordable veterinary care. The Healthy Pets Clinic helps owners keep their beloved pets by providing affordable vaccinations and preventative care-with the goal of keeping pets healthy and out of shelters. The Healthy Pets Clinic offers affordable vaccines, basic preventatives, treatment of minor illnesses and diagnostics.

If a pet exhibits the need for additional care, the Healthy Pets Clinic staff will provide a list of veterinarians by zip code and will recommend they seek additional help for their pet. The Healthy Pets Clinic provides low-cost wellness examinations, vaccines and basic preventatives for owned animals. The clinic treats minor medical issues and provides diagnostics. The Kentucky Humane Society’s Healthy Pets Clinic is proud to offer low-cost animal care. For the long-term health and happiness of your pet, we recommend regular visits to a full-service veterinarian whenever possible.

The Health Benefits of Pets at WomansDay.com

On an emotional level, owning a pet can decrease depression, stress and anxiety; health-wise, it can lower your blood pressure, improve your immunity and even decrease your risk of heart attack and stroke. Read on to discover all of the incredible health benefits that can come with owning a pet. In a 2002 study at State University of New York at Buffalo, researchers found that when conducting a stressful task, people experienced less stress when their pets were with them than when a spouse, family member or close friend was nearby. Promises Treatment Centers, which specializes in addiction, not only recommends its patients consider getting a pet, but even allows pets in its rehabilitation facilities, according to David Sack, MD, CEO of Promises. According to the CDC, another heart-healthy result of owning a pet is lower cholesterol.

People who own pets-and men, in particular-have significantly lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels than those who don’t have pets. A lot of the health benefits of owning a pet may stem from the mental and emotional benefits. Pets can aid in the recovery of a heart attack. According to the American Diabetes Association’s Diabetes Forecast magazine, a 1992 study found that one-third of the pets living with diabetics would change their behavior when their owner’s blood sugar level dropped. Dr.

Becker says pets can dramatically improve immunity and prevent allergies. Children who grow up in a household with pets benefit in myriad ways, especially in their emotional development. Pets are also hugely beneficial to children suffering from autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
