Healthy pets can lead to healthy people! With this in mind, the Veterinary Public Health Program at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health created the 2020 Healthy Pets Healthy Families Initiative to monitor local animal health trends and generate goals and interventions to improve both animal and human health. HPHF formed a coalition of local partners and established goals for 7 focus areas. HPHF coalition members meet quarterly to network, learn about the work done by local partners and collaborate on projects. A key component of HPHF is understanding local pet health data. Best Friends Pet Care

Choosing a veterinarian for your pet is much like selecting a physician for yourself: the doctor must meet your needs. For years, the veterinary and animal welfare community has been working to educate pet owners about the benefits of spaying or neutering for family pets. A large number of dog and cat owners continue to skip this important health care action for the family dog or cat because of misinformation. The news is full of stories about the H1N1 virus and the importance of being vaccinated. What dog owners may not know is that the family pet may also need a flu shot this year. Do you still count your pet’s age in “Dog years,” figuring one dog year equals seven human years? If so, it’s time to throw out that old one-to-seven rule of thumb.

For Pet's Sake News for 02-25-2018

Minerals, Vitamins, pH Therapy Packages, Nutrition Products, Pet Products

Based on my own past experiences, and the many articles I have read written by scientists and doctors, I saw that my body needed an outside source of minerals and vitamins, since I wasn’t getting what I needed from the food I ate. I learned that most of the minerals and vitamins on the market, which are in pill, capsule, or colloidal/chelated form, cannot be easily absorbed by the body’s cells because of their large particle size. The body will just flush out what it cannot use, or worse, deposit particles that are too large to be absorbed in other areas of the body, contributing to kidney stones, bone spurs and more. See, if the minerals are not in a form our body can use, then they are not doing us any good. It is not in a soluble form our body can assimilate into its cells. I started thinking about the importance of the relationship between minerals/vitamins and our bodies. See, our body can be compared to a very high class, advanced automobile. An auto, complete with high octane fuel requirements, an automatic internal diagnostic repair system, an electrical system, a cooling system, and a central processing unit/computer. All these systems need certain things to operate smoothly. As we grow, certain things start happening to our vehicle, our body. So we go to the doctor and he prescribes a medicine to help, but this is only a patch to the system, not a fix. In order for a complete fix, we must give our system a chance to repair itself, and it cannot do that without the proper tools. These substances that our bodies need to survive are the essence of life: without them we would be dead. We get this essence from what we eat. Even if we cannot see it, our body is expecting it to be there. WE NEED MINERALS AND VITAMINS TO LIVE! Sure, you are getting some of them in the food you eat, but not as much as your system needs, and if they are not in a form that your body can use, they cannot be readily absorbed.

Biologically Appropriate Raw Food

Healthy Pet Products’ commitment is to offer the very best, wholesome and nutritious raw diet products to our animals and yours. Over thirty years of experience has shown us the benefits of feeding well. When fed well, dogs and cats have a better quality of life, live longer and are the picture of good health and condition. Healthy Pet Products’ goal is to duplicate a diet natural to dogs and cats. Convenience dry foods are often grain based, high in carbohydrates, baked at high temperatures which destroys live enzymes, and leaving little or no nutrition. “Live enzymes are responsible for every metabolic reaction that takes place in the body, from blinking an eye to liver function.” The source for live enzymes is fresh raw meat. Healthy Pet Products’ Complete Blends are designed to duplicate your dog’s natural diet. The closer you feed a natural diet to any species, the more they will flourish. The ancestors of dogs and cats first choice of cuisine was small animals such as rodents, rabbits, lizards, birds, sheep and deer. Healthy Pet Products’ Complete Blends very closely represents the same profile as their natural diet. The combination of blended Organ meats, Ground bone, Muscle meat, Vegetables and Fruit supplies the proper nutrients in the proper ratios. Healthy Pet Products’ Complete Blends provide a complete, well balanced diet of protein, fat, fiber, moisture, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, Omega 3 & 6 essential fatty acids, probiotics, prebiotics and full spectrum enzymes, resulting in a superior diet that promotes superior health and condition. Healthy Pet Products are so complete that supplements are not needed. The Healthy Pet Products diet plan of “Raw Feeding” has been referred to as BARF or B.A.R.F., all acronyms for either Biologically Appropriate Raw Food or Bones and Raw Food. It’s a simple generic term, and we don’t have to then explain using an acronym that some people find distasteful.

Pet Food Recipes

How To Make Your Own Pet Food.As a pet owner, no doubt you want to give your dog or cat the best care possible. Animals do not need salt added to their diet as the natural salt in the food is enough for them. Dogs may eat any vegetable they want, but cats should not have any starchy veggies, like peas and corn. For dogs use 75% carbohydrate foods to 25% meat; for cats use half carbohydrate foods to half meat. You will find, once you begin making your own pet foods, that it is really relatively simple and you will save some money as well. Remember that all pet foods should be served at room temperature; don’t serve food cold from the refrigerator nor hot from the stove. For dogs, cut the liver into pieces and serve; for cats, grind the liver in a blender, using the pan juices. CHICKEN SOAP. Combine 1 chicken liver, 1 giblet, 1 chicken heart, 1 chicken neck, 2 cups water and 1 tablespoon finely chopped parsley. Chop all the meat for dogs removing bones and mix with kibble; for cats, you may want to grind the meat in the blender. VEAL STEW. Combine 1/2 pound stewing veal, 1 cup canned tomatoes, 1 cup water, 1 chicken bouillon cube, 1/2 onion, parsley and a dash of garlic powder in a pot and simmer. For dogs, cut the meat in chunks, and mix stew with kibble or some other grain; for cats, grind the stew in blender, adding a tablespoon of wheat germ or 1/2 slice of whole wheat bread. Healthy people have healthy pets – Home

What do you wish most for your pet? I most commonly hear “For them to be healthy and happy.” I needed to take good care of myself, so i could take good care of her. I had to create a healthier relationship with myself, so I could create a healthier relationship with her. What if your pet, like mine, is showing YOU the way to health and happiness? What if your pet is doing their best to show you those parts of you that need healing? What if some of your pet’s behaviour, especially the ones that trigger you, or the ones that annoy, worry, frustrate or invoke emotions are the way to finding which parts need acknowledgement? What if your pets’ story, or the actions you identify and connect with deeply and personally, are all ways in which your pet is helping you heal your own hurts? What if these are all ways in which your pet is helping you become more of who you really are or want to be? Our pets may be the only ones who really see us for who we really are. For many pets are family – for some they are better than family. Your pet is like an angel who has traded it’s wings for fur, loving you and encouraging you to be a healthier and happier version of yourself – but they cannot do that for you. Essentially, I assist your pet, to assist you – it could be said I help pets with their people problems. I help you tune in – to hear them AND hear yourself. Animals are being used more in therapy work, because they are such honest mirrors of our behaviour, they are so finely tuned to body language. We have a lot to learn from our pets, as we have lost connection with our powerful instinctive, intuitive and wilder side. Our shame and guilt interferes with us being happy and healthy and it can interfere with our pets health and happiness too. Do you need some assistance in tuning into your pet and yourself? To really find out what is important to you and your pet and find ways to create changes in your life? Ways to improve your relationship with yourself and your pet?

Reviews of Healthy Pets

You learn the true value of an insurance policy only when you have to claim. Healthy Pets are, after 9 months, trying to claim – despite vet evidence to the contrary – that my cats throat tumour, which was diagnosed just 40 mins before she died on the operating table, was a pre-existing condition and so they won’t pay the claim. We have had to make major claims on our dogs policy over the last 4 years all of which have been handled in an excellent way. Bearing in mind that this was not a medical claim I called Heatlhy Pets to query this. Why would you contact your insurer just so you can make up some missing pet posters? comment by: Confused, 30 February 2016 There is a “Missing pets” compensation part to insurance. Why would you contact your insurer just so you can make up some missing pet posters? Have made a few small claims and haven’t had a problem. Four months after making a claim the company has agreed to pay around 60% – they have deducted excess, 20% contribution and another 25.00 for premium changes. Reviewed By: CJ, Recommend: Y. We have used Healthy Pets for almost five years. Reviewed By: mrs street, Recommend: N. this company changed underwriters after 3 of my pets had been with them for several years without claims. We needed to claim they would not cover my cats problem because his treatment is intermittent and not constant but the condition needs treating every couple of months. Reviewed By: Lynn S, Recommend: Y. My previous company raised annual premium by 120 so I researched online for a new company and found Healthy Pets. Honestly, the best thing you can do for them is to get a credit card just for pet emieegncres, start a savings account for pet emieegncres or get care credit. Pet Insurance unfortunately usually costs people more than it saves. The problem with most pet insurance companies is that they are not going to cover anything they consider a pre-existing condition’ or anything they consider hereditary’.

Best Pet Insurance for 2018

How Pet Insurance Can Save You Money If you asked every pet lover you encountered in a day how they feel about their pets, theyd likely tell you they view them as family members, not pets. Most pet owners want their furry family members to live long and healthy lives. One of the best ways to make sure that happens is by investing in a pet insurance policy. Pet insurance plans are designed to help shoulder the burden of these costs, helping pet owners to have the choice in caring for their pet, versus euthanasia due to insufficient funding to pay for necessary medical procedures. Industry trends indicate that pet health insurance policies are growing in popularity in the U.S., with an anticipated increase of up to 10 percent within the next five years. The first official pet healthcare policy was sold in Britain in 1947. Britain trails only Sweden in the number of pet owners who provide insurance for their pets. While it is sold under the name healthcare insurance, pet health insurance is actually under the insurance umbrella for property. According to insurance laws, pets are seen as property, so the insurance policy which covers them is similar to that for any other property owned by an individual. Most pet owners understand that cost for care, as well as the likelihood that the pet will suffer from certain diseases and conditions, significantly increases as the pet ages. Not many pet owners have stopped to ask themselves what they would do if their pet suffered a serious or unexpected injury. Many pet owners cannot afford such high up-front costs and most veterinarians require payment in full at the time of the procedure. That leaves many pet owners struggling with what to do for their pet when they cant afford the procedure that could help them. Most pet policies cover these issues and many more, making them a good investment for pet owners. With a variety of plans from which to choose, pet owners can find one that is not only affordable to them, but which also covers their pets annual medical needs.

Healthy Pets Program

Wellness services are now offered 5 days a week at 241 Steedly Drive, and are no longer offered at the S.N.I.P. Clinic, which focuses on spay/neuter only. Our clinic is very busy so please note that you may have a two or more hour wait on busy days and times. Our Healthy Pets Clinic offers the canine influenza vaccine. The initial dose is $25. The booster is an additional $25. If your pet is showing ANY respiratory signs, such as coughing or sneezing, please do not bring your pet to the clinic. The Healthy Pets Clinic provides low-cost wellness examinations, vaccines and basic preventatives for owned animals. The clinic treats minor medical issues and provides diagnostics. The Kentucky Humane Society’s Healthy Pets Clinic is proud to offer low-cost animal care. Our clinic is not a replacement for a relationship with a full-service veterinarian. For the long-term health and happiness of your pet, we recommend regular visits to a full-service veterinarian whenever possible. The Kentucky Humane Society wants to ensure that every pet owner in our community has access to basic veterinary care for dogs and cats they can afford. This is important not only to help keep owned pets healthy, but to ensure there are fewer sick animals in our community and in local shelters. KHS discovered the need for wellness examinations through our free Pet Help Line, 502-509-4PET. One of the most common reasons people call the Pet Help Line is because they are looking for affordable veterinary care. The Healthy Pets Clinic helps owners keep their beloved pets by providing affordable vaccinations and preventative care-with the goal of keeping pets healthy and out of shelters. The Healthy Pets Clinic offers affordable vaccines, basic preventatives, treatment of minor illnesses and diagnostics. If a pet exhibits the need for additional care, the Healthy Pets Clinic staff will provide a list of veterinarians by zip code and will recommend they seek additional help for their pet.

VOHC is not liable to any person for any loss or injury of any type that occurs from the use of a product sold under its Registered Seal. When VOHC authorizes use of its Registered Seal, VOHC makes no certification, representation or warranty as to safety and certifies only that, upon application for the right to use the Registered Seal, the product met VOHC’s Standards for effectiveness in retarding plaque and tartar when used as directed. VOHC makes no other certification, and no representation or warranty of any sort, in connection with any product sold under its Registered Seal. Submission of results of clinical trials to VOHC on behalf of a product is voluntary. If the data submitted demonstrate the required dental efficacy, the VOHC Seal of Acceptance is awarded to the product. As part of the submission, VOHC requires assurance by the company that a product awarded the VOHC Seal is safe and meets all applicable regulatory requirements, and requires the company to inform VOHC of any problems with the product following issuance of the VOHC Seal. VOHC will take action if FDA or other appropriate regulatory authority finds fault with a class of products or a specific product that is included in the VOHC Accepted list. VOHC recommends that all of the products on its VOHC Accepted list are used as recommended by the manufacturer and that treat products are given when the pet can be observed by the owner. Almost all dogs and cats enjoy the chewing action and taste of palatable treats, and typically spend a few minutes chewing the product rather than bolting it down whole or in large pieces. If your pet does not chew the product thoroughly, discontinue use of the treat.

Pets can be a prescription for happier, healthier life

Whether they paw, fly or swim their way into our hearts, pets are an important part of our lives. According to the National Pet Owners Survey, about two-thirds of U.S. households own at least one pet, which means 71 million homes provide shelter for at least one furry, feathery or scaly critter. We take good care of our pets, but did you know that our pets also take good care of us? A growing body of research suggests that owning and interacting with a pet can improve our health. Some studies suggest that children who are exposed to furry pets as infants are less likely to develop allergies. “There are lots of studies showing that pets are good for our health,” says Rebecca Johnson, PhD, RN, director of the Research Center for Human-Animal Interaction at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. Enjoying pawsitive energy Researchers are busy studying the many ways our pets can benefit our health. In another study of 240 married couples, those who owned pets had lower heart rates and blood pressure, both at rest as well as under stress. Happy tails At the end of a long day, who doesn’t enjoy coming home to a cold nose, a wagging tail and a slobbery kiss? But is it okay to kiss our pets? It’s not a good idea to let your pets lick you on the mouth, says Jennifer Wright, DVM, MPH, a veterinary epidemiologist at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “The rewards you get from your pets are much greater than the risk of acquiring an illness from a well-cared for pet,” Wright says. Just like people, our pets can carry certain bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi, so get into the habit of washing your hands after interacting with your pets. Keeping up with your pet’s vaccinations will help keep your pet healthy and reduce the risk of someone in your family contracting an animalborne infection. “There are benefits to having pets, you just have to be aware that there are some risks and they are all perfectly preventable risks,” Wright says. “Dogs will facilitate physical exercise better than cats or other nonwalking pets.” >> For more pet health information, visit www.
