The loss of a beloved pet companion can be just as hard as losing a human friend or family member. Sometimes we are able to take comfort in companionship of our to pets when human relationships fail us. Losing that unconditional love and affection can be heartbreaking. Remembering your pet in an online memorial is a wonderful way to honor that bond. We create a pet memorial page in your special pet’s name when you donate to the AHF. You may specify the AHF program you wish to support with your memorial donation. How Pets Improve Your Health

In a study published in Clinical & Experimental Allergy, children who were exposed to pets before they were six months old were less likely to develop allergic diseases, hay fever, and eczema as they got older. “In the first year of life, babies who are exposed to dogs in the household are more likely not to have allergies, asthma, and fewer upper respiratory infections,” says Johnson. “If exposed at an early age to dander and allergens, we may be less reactive to them over time.” And kids who grow up around farm animals, dogs, or cats typically have stronger immune systems and a reduced risk of developing asthma or eczema.

Shop CBD Oil for Pets Shop CBD Oil for Dogs & Cats

Aside from the many CBD products made for people, like our CBD edibles. What’s so special about CBD for pets is that it is extremely easy to give to your furry companion. Most pets won’t like having something new added to their food, especially if it is a supplement, since dogs and cats have a very sharp sense of smell. Developed by dedicated veterinarians, our CBD products for pets have all been designed to be palatable and pleasant for your pet’s sense of smell and taste. Hemp seed oil is a safe and natural product, and our tinctures contain as few additives as possible to ensure your pet gets the best, healthiest experience. You just have to add the specific serving size you want to give your pet to their food and make sure they eat it all. If your pet doesn’t like finishing his/her food, use the product on a small amount, wait until your pet ate it all, and fill the bowl with the rest of the portion your dog or cat needs. While CBD for pets is absolutely safe and thoroughly tested, it should be used ONLY for cats and dogs, not other animals or people. Hemp seed oil is very rich in CBD. This makes hemp oil the perfect choice if you want a supplement that can’t cause a high but offers many of the health benefits of medicinal marijuana. By taking CBD, your pet can feel more relaxed and have an improved quality of life. A lot of our customers buy CBD for pets that have separation issues, are extremely nervous during the day or can’t seem to stay calm. Just remember: If your pet used to be calm and his/her character suddenly changed, it might actually be a symptom of a more serious disease. Consult your veterinarian if your pet shows any sudden changes in character. You can stop giving your pet CBD at any time, if you deem it necessary, without a worry. CBD is just as amazing for humans as it is for pets!

Home Remedies for Common Pet Problems

Prevent hairballs Brush your cat regularly to control loose hair, and replace dry food with canned meals, which have a higher moisture content to help with digestion. Put a pea-sized amount of butter on your cat’s paw once a week for her to lick off; it will help lubricate her digestive tract. Remedy the runs If your pet has diarrhea, serving him rice water is an effective way to allow his digestive system to rest and regroup. Help the medicine go down If your pet has to take pills, the sweet flavor of molasses can cleverly disguise the bittertaste. Erase eye gunk Two herbal teas-eyebright and chamomile-contain mild astringents as well as polyphenols, which fight the germs that can cause eye discharge. Dip a cotton ball in a weak, room-temperature cup of tea and gently clean around your pet’s peepers. Deter diabetes Studies have suggested that, just as in people, cinnamon can help lower blood glucose levels in animals, too. Try sprinkling a pinch on your diabetic pet’s food. Or dip a Q-tip in hydrogen peroxide and rub it along your pet’s gum line. Lysine is an amino acid that prevents respiratory and eye infections caused by a strain of the herpes virus, which is commonly found in cats. Omega-3 fats found in cold-water fish and in flaxseed and walnuts help with hairballs, constipation and allergies by lubricating your pet’s digestive system. Nordic Naturals makes a pet formula, with dosage directions on the label based on species and weight. Slippery Elm & Psyllium Husks are two herbal remedies that work to re-regulate the digestive system when your pet is constipated or has diarrhea. ALOE VERA gel, made from the succulent aloe plant and found at health food stores, can be applied directly to soothe cuts and burns. Use it to prevent diarrhea or to repopulate the gut when your pet is prescribed antibiotics.

About Us – Healthy Option Natural Pet Food

Healthy Option Pet Food is a small family run business that started 17 years ago with just a simple idea, to make pets healthy again. With already 25 years experience in the retail pet trade, something didn’t seem right. Looking for a natural dog food for your pet can be a bit of minefield, sometimes we can over look some of the basic principles of feeding our pets. Are the more expensive super premium pet foods worth the money? Why not buy cheap supermarket dog food? Is natural dog food the best way to go? Healthy Option Pet Food only use the finest natural ingredients including white rice and brown rice which is a digestible source of carbohydrates and fibre, we use real meat as the best protein source, we only use natural preservatives, vitamins and minerals. We also have a range of grain free dog food for dogs that are sensitive to grains. In many cases the first thing a vet will tell you to do is to feed boiled rice and chicken, then the health of the dog seems to improve, after which most people change the dog back onto their previous diet only for the problem to arise again. So at Healthy Option Pet Food we formulated a food that is based on boiled rice and chicken, it was back to basics. Feed the dog what they actually need and not ‘the junk’. Healthy Option Chicken and Rice was formulated first before the Lamb and Rice which followed shortly afterwards. The customers at the Healthy Option stores were seeing a massive improvement on the health of their animals by feeding a more natural dog food, bringing in to the stores letters of thanks. Health Option Mixer biscuit was then formulated for those who wanted to feed real meat, with highly digestible carbohydrates and a good source of oils and fats. Cat food, rabbit food, ferret food, dog treats all followed with same principles in mind. The food was only ever formulated for the needs of our own customers but with fantastic healthy animals, our customers told their friends and relatives about us. We give good honest advice to all our customers who have healthy happy animals.

Health Benefits of Pet Ownership

Many of the benefits of pets – companionship, affection and so on – have been well known for centuries – even numerous ancient Egyptians cherished their companion animals. A study undertaken in 2002 by the Waltham Center for Pet Nutrition and United States Food and Drug Administration revealed that the heart rates and blood pressures of pet owners increased less when the individuals were presented with math problems to solve if their companion animals were present. Another study, one conducted by the United States National Institutes of Health during 2001, showed that people who have pets not only “Make fewer doctor visits, especially for non-serious medical conditions,” but are more likely to be alive one year after being treated for a coronary condition. Several recent surveys of individuals sharing their lives with pets have revealed that most of them are convinced their health is improved by having animals around. Ninety-two percent of the respondents to a survey conducted by the American Animal Hospital Association during 2002 indicated that they derive significant health benefits from their pets. 65 percent indicated their mental health is improved by their pets. A survey undertaken by the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association in 2000 yielded results very similar to those obtained by the AAHA. Eighty-eight percent of the senior citizens who responded to the APPMA survey indicated that “Pets make their family or home life healthier, either emotionally or physically.” In addition, 79 percent of all of the respondents stated they believe “Pets help to create a healthier balancewith the increasing presence of technology” in homes. The unique bond we share with our pets dramatically enriches our lives, our physical health and our emotional well-being. Many studies have shown that while we are taking care of our pets, our pets are taking care of us. A recent study at the State University of New York at Buffalo found that people with hypertension who adopted a cat or dog had lower blood pressure readings in stressful situations than did those who did not own a pet. Walking with a pet helps to sooth nerves and offers instant relaxation. Studies conducted worldwide have shown that the impact of a stressful situation is lesser on pet owners, especially males, than on those who do not own a pet. Because pets provide people with faithful companionship, research shows they may also provide their owners with greater psychological stability, thus a measure of protection from heart disease. People with pets actually make fewer doctor visits, especially for non-serious medical conditions. Pets help fight depression and loneliness, promoting an interest in life.

Pet Therapy: How Animals And Humans Heal Each Other

Pet Therapy: How Animals And Humans Heal Each Other : Shots – Health News Dogs, cats, birds, fish and even horses are increasingly being used in settings ranging from hospitals and nursing homes to schools, jails and mental institutions. A growing body of scientific research suggests interacting with animals can make us healthier – and benefits them, too. That helps explain the increasing use of animals – dogs and cats mostly, but also birds, fish and even horses – in settings ranging from hospitals and nursing homes to schools, jails and mental institutions. “One could even look at Florence Nightingale recognizing that animals provided a level of social support in the institutional care of the mentally ill,” says Fine, who has written several books on the human-animal bond. More recently, says Rebecca Johnson, a nurse who heads the Research Center for Human/Animal Interaction at the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine, studies have been focusing on the fact that interacting with animals can increase people’s level of the hormone oxytocin. “Oxytocin helps us feel happy and trusting.” Which, Johnson says, may be one of the ways that humans bond with their animals over time. Animals can also act as therapists themselves or facilitate therapy – even when they’re not dogs or cats. “One of the things that’s always been known is that the animals help a clinician go under the radar of a child’s consciousness, because the child is much more at ease and seems to be much more willing to reveal,” he says. “We want to know how the animals are benefiting from the exchange,” says Johnson of the University of Missouri. Much of Johnson’s research, for example, has focused on the value of dog-walking by studying volunteers who walk dogs at animal shelters. Johnson is now working on a new project with likely benefits for dogs and humans. While it’s still early in the research, she says, one thing seems pretty clear: “Helping the animals is helping the veterans to readjust to being at home.” The National Institutes of Health, with funding from pet food giant Mars Inc., recently created a federal research program to study human-animal interaction. The program, operated through the National Institute for Child Health and Human Development, offers scientists research grants to study the impact of animals on child development, in physical and psychological therapeutic treatments, and on the effects of animals on public health, including their ability to reduce or prevent disease. Johnson says it’s critical to establish the scientific foundation for the premise that animals are good for people, even if that seems obvious.
