The 2020 Healthy Pets, Healthy Families Initiative
Healthy pets can lead to healthy people! With this in mind, the Veterinary Public Health Program at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health created the 2020 Healthy Pets Healthy Families Initiative to monitor local animal health trends and generate goals and interventions to improve both animal and human health. HPHF formed a coalition of local partners and established goals for 7 focus areas. HPHF coalition members meet quarterly to network, learn about the work done by local partners and collaborate on projects. A key component of HPHF is understanding local pet health data. Tell us about your knowledge on pet health by taking this short quiz. Published article: The Healthy Pets Healthy Families Initiative as an example of One Health in action.
~ All Natural Pet Care Information and Products for the Holistic Animal Approach ~
While humans have come full circle in regards to personal and earth care, pets have largely remained in the manufactured and simulated age. The slow but steady movement towards more natural pet care was accelerated by large scale pet food recalls. The Internet has facilitated awareness through information sharing and easy access to scientific pet research. Pet parent consumers have evolved to an entirely different level of understanding. We insist that our beloved companions receive the premium, natural pet products that they are promised, and we demand an explanation when those promises are proven empty. Welcome to All Natural Pet Care, where an educated consumer is a valued partner with the same goal – the ultimate health and happiness of our pets.

Best Friends Pet Care
Choosing a veterinarian for your pet is much like selecting a physician for yourself: the doctor must meet your needs. For years, the veterinary and animal welfare community has been working to educate pet owners about the benefits of spaying or neutering for family pets. A large number of dog and cat owners continue to skip this important health care action for the family dog or cat because of misinformation. The news is full of stories about the H1N1 virus and the importance of being vaccinated. What dog owners may not know is that the family pet may also need a flu shot this year. Do you still count your pet’s age in “Dog years,” figuring one dog year equals seven human years? If so, it’s time to throw out that old one-to-seven rule of thumb.
