Provide potential snail owners with information on keeping snails as pets. Hopefully, this site will tell you all you need to get started. In many cases the information is quite detailed and not all of it will be of interest or use to everyone. To that end, it may fail as a ‘just the basics please’ kind of site. This site was born from a hunger for snail information and the struggle to find it.

Don’t be misled by that, there are great sites out there, but they all contain varying levels of detail and focus. Most hobbyists tend to get carried away with their hobby and thirst for information. This site is intended to fulfil that thirst and provide newcomers with all the information they may desire. Hopefully, the information that is on here currently and the contributions from other snail owners will become a point of reference for both newcomers and more experienced people alike. We also link to more detailed information on other sites wherever possible.

All About Pet Birds, Parrots and Pet Bird Care

Some say they don’t believeThat Angels can be seen or heard. What a shame such blindnessWhat a pity such deafness When the Song of songs abounds… And Heaven’s flyers are all around…Only thinly disguised… as birds. If you are using non-stick cookware, and your birds are anywhere close to where you are cooking…

get rid of that cookware NOW! Go to all stainless steel cookware NOW! Don’t put it off. The PTFE chemicals contained in the non-stick cookware are extremely deadly to birds if the cookware is over-heated, and that can so easily happen. Don’t risk it!

We lost one of our precious birds in just this way. We procastinated getting rid of the non-stick cookware. One day a pan overheated and one of our precious birds sitting in the kitchen, happy and healthy one minute, was dead a few minutes later. Let the death of our bird save yours!!! Get rid of your non-stick cookware NOW!

Complete Natural Health For Your Pet

In many cases, the cause is a poorly functioning immune system and toxic buildup in the body’s organs, particularly in the liver. The diet of an animal in the wild would often include these antioxidants and herbs. While living safely indoors with us protects them, it also limits their capability to take care of their own health, as they would instinctively. The supplements are meant to make up for some of the short-comings in the diets of our animal friends. Other pet parents started giving C-Caps to their animals after hearing what none of us wants to hear.

If you read some of the heartwarming testimonials, you’ll see what natural remedies can do. Mistletoe – a highly nutritious plant that animals would naturally eat in the wild. Echinacea – a well-known plant that supports normal blood pressure and stimulates the immune system. Indian ginseng – a tonic herb that supports growth, strengthens the immune system and nourishes the blood. Milk Thistle – used as a liver tonic for thousands of years.

Cat’s Claw – another plant that supports and maintains the immune system. Whether your animals are well and healthy or suffering from chronic health problems, C-Caps are a good investment.

A Healthy Mouth for a Healthy Pet

Man best friend, our furry four legged pet, our dogs. Not only is halitosis disruptive to the relationship with your pet it can also be the first sign of trouble. If your pets health is important to you remember, they need a healthy mouth for a healthy pet. A daily brushing of your pet’s teeth is a very effective method for preventing tooth loss and periodontal disease. There are a few do’s and do not’s when it come to caring for your pets mouth.

These brushes are too hard for your pet’s mouth. Since our pets tend to swallow most of the foam it can cause vomiting. Do use pet chew toys which are designed to create gum stimulation. You can even check into prescription pet foods that have been developed to clean your pets teeth if the suffer from chronic dental disease. The bottom line is that if you have a dog or a cat for a pet, chances are very good that they may be a candidate for oral disease.

The good news is that with all of the products and techniques available today pet health and oral health is fairly simple. Start with a daily brushing of pet’s teeth and a yearly visit to the vet for an oral cleaning and exam, and your on the right path to good pet health.

Water and pets

Drinking bottled water, or filtered water from the refrigerator while your cat, dog or other pet’s water bowl is filled from that, ugh, tap. Still, many continue to feed fill pet bowls with tap water. Most animal experts will agree that pets should be given the same quality water as humans: bottled and/or filtered. As stated earlier, municipal and well water can contain many harmful things, even parasites. They don’t discriminate between pets and people!

Some folks feed their pet’s bottled water and can cause more problems than they think. Bottled water is extremely expensive and continues to add waste in our landfills. Despite the waste plastic bottles create, some bottled water is just bottled tap water. This means pets can still be harmed by the contaminants in the unfiltered water. Giving your pet filtered water will remove a potentially sickness-causing organism or metal from being ingested.

Cats and dogs, the two most common pets, need fresh water and plenty of it. Fish, who live in water, can be greatly affected by water with high levels of chlorine or ammonia; chemical used in some treatment plants. Poor quality water can be more prone to ‘bad’ algae.

PetSafe Healthy Pet Gravity Feeder & Waterer Set for Pets

PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Station, Large

After switching to this 2.5 gallon auto bowl I only have to refill it about once a day. Now that this baby is set up, I’m only refilling her water every day or two! What a victory! The stainless steel dish also makes it easy to clean out her globby slobber and the detritus that flops out of her floopy jowls. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars is because for some reason, both the cats and dogs, still prefer the good ol’e fashion big bowl of water.

The fact that you can carry it by the handle even with water in it is a huge plus to me and I don’t even mind refilling it often, which we have 4 pets that drink out of it. This waterer is perfect! We have three dogs ranging in size from a 110 lab to a corgi & the capacity of this waterer makes keeping them supplied with water so easy! Also, the stainless steel bowl is removable for easy cleaning and water container itself is made of very durable plastic! 100% satisfied. I have three dogs and kept filling up there bowls with water too often.

I opted to buy one of these pet water stations and it worked well with the medium size, but since two of my dogs are larger I ordered another medium water station and it’s perfect. It’s simple to change the water with minimal spillage if any at all. I bought this because my boy Felix was playing and knocked over his water bowl accidentally. Didn’t want him to not drink so I had to go back to his regular water bowl. Like these water stations so much, that I got a second one for the ‘dog room’.

I ordered the filters this time and they have worked flawlessly… so now I can fill them from the sink, instead of using filtered fridge water.

Healthy Pets Clinic

Our Healthy Pets Clinic offers the canine influenza vaccine. The initial dose is $25. The booster is an additional $25. If your pet is showing ANY respiratory signs, such as coughing or sneezing, please do not bring your pet to the clinic. The Kentucky Humane Society wants to ensure that every pet owner in our community has access to basic veterinary care for dogs and cats they can afford.

This is important not only to help keep owned pets healthy, but to ensure there are fewer sick animals in our community and in local shelters. KHS discovered the need for wellness examinations through our free Pet Help Line, 502-509-4PET. One of the most common reasons people call the Pet Help Line is because they are looking for affordable veterinary care. The Healthy Pets Clinic helps owners keep their beloved pets by providing affordable vaccinations and preventative care-with the goal of keeping pets healthy and out of shelters. The Healthy Pets Clinic offers affordable vaccines, basic preventatives, treatment of minor illnesses and diagnostics.

If a pet exhibits the need for additional care, the Healthy Pets Clinic staff will provide a list of veterinarians by zip code and will recommend they seek additional help for their pet. The Healthy Pets Clinic provides low-cost wellness examinations, vaccines and basic preventatives for owned animals. The clinic treats minor medical issues and provides diagnostics. The Kentucky Humane Society’s Healthy Pets Clinic is proud to offer low-cost animal care. For the long-term health and happiness of your pet, we recommend regular visits to a full-service veterinarian whenever possible.

The Health Benefits of Pets at WomansDay.com

On an emotional level, owning a pet can decrease depression, stress and anxiety; health-wise, it can lower your blood pressure, improve your immunity and even decrease your risk of heart attack and stroke. Read on to discover all of the incredible health benefits that can come with owning a pet. In a 2002 study at State University of New York at Buffalo, researchers found that when conducting a stressful task, people experienced less stress when their pets were with them than when a spouse, family member or close friend was nearby. Promises Treatment Centers, which specializes in addiction, not only recommends its patients consider getting a pet, but even allows pets in its rehabilitation facilities, according to David Sack, MD, CEO of Promises. According to the CDC, another heart-healthy result of owning a pet is lower cholesterol.

People who own pets-and men, in particular-have significantly lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels than those who don’t have pets. A lot of the health benefits of owning a pet may stem from the mental and emotional benefits. Pets can aid in the recovery of a heart attack. According to the American Diabetes Association’s Diabetes Forecast magazine, a 1992 study found that one-third of the pets living with diabetics would change their behavior when their owner’s blood sugar level dropped. Dr.

Becker says pets can dramatically improve immunity and prevent allergies. Children who grow up in a household with pets benefit in myriad ways, especially in their emotional development. Pets are also hugely beneficial to children suffering from autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

Embrace vs. Healthy Paws

With pet insurance, the difference is in the details. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of important comparison points between Embrace and Healthy Paws Pet Insurance, so you can decide for yourself. Healthy Paws currently does not offer routine care coverage. Embrace promotes, rewards, and encourages healthy pets by offering Wellness Rewards, an optional non-insurance product that reimburses for everyday veterinary, grooming, and training costs. Healthy Paws does not reimburse you for veterinary exam fees, which leaves a large gap in coverage. Exam fees at specialty and emergency hospitals can often cost $100 or more. Not having coverage for office visits is like having an extra deductible each time you go to the veterinarian. Healthy Paws calculates claims differently than Embrace, subtracting the copay off the claimed amount first and then subtracting the deductible, which leads to 7-10% lower reimbursement for claims under $1,000. Embrace calculates claim reimbursements by first subtracting the deductible and then taking off the co-pay. If you have a $700 incident and a $200 deductible, Healthy Paws’ method will cost you $40 more out of pocket. You’ll get more money back with Embrace’s method of reimbursement. Embrace is the only pet insurer to offer a diminishing deductible. With Embrace’s Healthy Pet Deductible, your pet’s annual deductible automatically goes down by $50 each year you don’t receive a claim reimbursement. Get the scoop on what actual policyholders think of Embrace and our competitors at PetInsuranceReview.com. With over 5,000 reviews, Embrace is consistently rated over 9 out of 10.

Bragg Live Foods, Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar, Bragg Liquid Aminos,Systemic Enzymes, Bragg Live Organic Food Products, Patricia Bragg, Paul Bragg, Bragg Organic Olive Oil, Bragg Salad Dressings, Bragg Seasonings, Bragg Health Products

While Apple Cider Vinegar’s healthy properties are well known for use in humans, it’s also good for your pets, especially dogs! Do NOT buy white distilled vinegar, as it has none of the beneficial elements listed above. I began using Bragg ACV as a supplement for my dogs in 1994. Some holistic health practitioners recommend that Bragg ACV be placed in a dog’s drinking water. I recommend placing it in fresh food because I believe that a dog’s drinking water should be free of additives, with the exception of an electrolyte solution or a medicinal product that is used on a short-term basis. It can also be given orally diluted in water under the guidance of a vet or holistic health practitioner. Bragg ACV can be useful to your dog’s health in conjunction with feeding it a wide variety of foods, but should never be looked upon as a panacea. Fresh food ingredients, such as raw meat and bones, fruits, vegetables, grains and dairy products make up the wholeness that will effectively help your dog to achieve optimum health. Often times one looks for the magic ingredient that will miraculously make their dog well. Whether it is an antibiotic, grapefruit seed extract, Aloe vera or milk thistle… there will always be a single popular or trendy supplement of the moment that is promoted as the great healing agent. If we focus on the part rather than the whole we are not taking a holistic approach to our dog’s health. “Fight Fleas, Ticks, & Mites: Flea collars & sprays are toxic. Instead use vinegar. Drop tsp Bragg ACV in water bowl, dab on skin, & swab ears if mites.”

Pet Flora, Probiotic Supplements for Cats

Vitality Science Pet Flora is the most effective probiotic for cats on the market because they are soil based! It is a broad spectrum formula, a matrix of superior, highly-resilient microflora whose organic, seed-like structures survive the early GI tract to thrive in the intestines. Pet Flora supports normal gastrointestinal function in animals. This is why our feline probiotic Pet Flora is superior to dairy-based probiotics for cats- it’s natural to your pet. Pet Flora holds down yeasts, fungi, and pathogenic microorganisms, while improving nutrient assimilation. “Nikki has improved greatly since taking your recommended Pet Flora and Super Pet Enzymes supplements. We feed her Wellness grain-free dry food along with Nature’s Variety Instinct canned food, which she absolutely loves! Her stools are regular and she has vomited only a couple times. Nikki is a happy girl once again, and her coat is so soft since using the coconut oil.” Thank you so very much for your dedication to pet health, from pet owners like myself who have become so frustrated and saddened with the treatment choices for our little pets’ chronic conditions. Canton, IL. Jamie transitions his dog off of pharmaceuticals and stabilizes digestion with Pet Flora. Geoorgetown, Ky. “Your products are amazing and I am so thankful they are available! My dog is doing wonderfully with the pet flora and the herbal anti-inflammatory. She finally stopped scratching and the redness all over her skin has virtually disappeared!”. “I have never written a testimonial for a product before, but I have had tremendous success with Pet Flora and want to share my experiences with other pet owners. If we go on a hike and my dogs drink some stagnant water, I will immediately give them Pet Flora when we get home, to make sure they don’t get sick. “I will give my cats Pet Flora if I notice loose stool in my their litter boxes, and the diarrhea will be gone by the next day. “We just wanted you to know our cat “Buffy” is alive and well today due to your Pet Flora product. “Thanks for giving us our Buffy back and believe me it is worth the effort to include a half capsule of Pet Flora in his morning and evening pet food. Texas A&M Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences

Pet medical histories are beginning to resemble that of their owners. With the rising costs and variety of pet procedures being offered, pet insurance policies are becoming more logical than ever, and opting for these policies can be beneficial. “Pet insurance policies, like all insurance, allow you to plan for the event of a major medical condition,” states Dr. Dan Posey, a clinical associate professor at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. “There is no doubt that veterinarians and pet owners have had to make tough health care decisions sometime in their pet’s life and with pet insurance it makes these decisions easier.” Before opting for health insurance for your pet it is critical that you research what each company’s plans cover and what is the best policy for you. There are numerous pet health insurance companies to choose from and the internet is a great place to start your research. Most pet insurance companies offer a variety of plans. “There are differences between each company’s policies and one should thoroughly understand what the insurance will and will not cover,” states Posey. Pet insurance is similar to our own health insurance in the fact that most companies usually will not cover pre-existing conditions. Hereditary conditions are also commonly excluded from pet health insurance. “A person should look for a pet insurance that does not have ‘per incident’ limits,” recommends Dr. M.A. Crist, a veterinarian at Texas A&M University. “If your animal has an accident and requires extensive surgery, a person with pet health insurance usually opts for the surgery, thinking it will be covered by their policy,” notes Crist. “Only later they find out that their insurance may not cover all of the expenses of the procedure or will only pay up to a certain amount for that surgery, leaving the policy holder to pay the remaining amount.” It is important to completely understand your policy, know the procedures it will cover, and what percentage your insurance company will pay for each. “The diagnostic, medical, and surgical procedures that were once only available in regional referral centers are now becoming more available in private practices. With increased access to such procedures, pet insurance can help make medical care more affordable.”

PET bottles potential health hazard News in Science

Water bottles made from PET plastic leach compounds that mimic the hormone oestrogen raising questions about their safety, say German researchers. Previous research has focused on plastics containing the chemical bisphenol-a. During that time regular PET plastic water bottles have maintained a reputation as safe, at least as far as human health is concerned. Scientists at Goethe University in Frankfurt found that estrogenic compounds leach from the plastic into the water. It’s too soon to say whether drinking out of PET plastic bottles is harmful to human health, says lead researcher Martin Wagner. It now appears possible that some as-yet unidentified chemicals in these plastics have the potential to interfere with estrogen and other reproductive hormones, just as BPA and phthalates do. “If you drink water from plastic bottles, you have a high probability of drinking estrogenic compounds.” The study adds to growing concerns about products that span the plastic spectrum, says Shanna Swan, an epidemiologist at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in New York. “This is coming at a good time because the use of bottles for consuming water is getting very bad press now because of its carbon footprint,” she says. Nine samples came out of glass bottles, nine were bottled in PET plastic and two were in cardboard, juice-like boxes. The specialised yeast, which change colour in the presence of estrogen-like compounds, revealed estrogenic activity in seven of the nine plastic bottles, compared with just three of the nine glass ones. To see if the estrogenic compounds were actually coming from the water itself, Wagner emptied the bottles and replaced the water with a pure snail medium and a tiny species of snail that is especially sensitive to estrogenic compounds. Eight weeks later, female snails living in plastic bottles had more than twice as many embryos inside their bodies compared to the glass-grown snails. “Something from the plastic,” says Wagner, “Must have leached out and changed the reproductive patterns of our snails.” Until the compounds at work in the snail study have been identified, it’s not possible to know if PET plastics pose a human health risk. “Now, I’m not saying that anymore. We don’t know about 4, 5, 1, or 2. This raises questions about all plastic bottles.”
